Careers

Do you have passion for farming cows, drive, commitment, and a thirst to learn? If so, a career with White River Dairies could be for you.

At White River Dairies we welcome people from all walks of life to come and work with us. We understand that a career change can be good for the soul.

The main criteria for us is that you must like cows. Have a passion for farming. Are self motivated, and possess a healthy desire to learn. Some positions require experience, while others we'll be happy to teach you everything you need to know on the job. If you have a can-do, roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty zest for work, and secretly dream of being Farmer of the Year, we're the team to get you there. And, you're the kind of candidate we're hoping to find.

Health and safety are an important part of what we do. As is having a strong work ethic and being time efficient. We consist of a small team of four full-time employees with one casual position. There is a mixture of male and female staff, we work together, as well as independently, and respect each others expertise, which is all part of creating a solid and happy work environment. Our staff all speak English.

The work varies from day today depending on the season and includes everything from managing the livestock, milking, calving, mowing and working with the land and crops. Having a drivers licence is a must while being savvy on a tractor is a strong advantage.

We offer a three year Farmer Development Program that aims at improving skills and knowledge no matter your current level of expertise. It would appeal to a young ambitious person who has dreams of one day owning their own farm. Paul will teach you how to farm by eye, not just rely on data, and you'd be learning from one of the best pasture managers in the country.

Staff Accommodation

Often when we take on new team members, they need to relocate to the West Otago area. We have a house on the farm which is made available to our senior team member and their family. It is a warm double glazed 4 bedroom house with a Schooner multi-fuel fire with wetback, a heat pump and dishwasher. Our other team members live in nearby Heriot and Tapanui.
